feeding our souls
On a Viber thread with some former dorm mates from university, it was a joy to read this piece of light fun — especially with everything so sensitive and explosive going on.
In the Philippines much of our culture and conversation are rooted in, on, and around food. We delight over its history, preparation, cooking, displaying, eating, and most definitely describing it in its minutest detail and obscure facet.
In our lock down and quarantined lives many of our artist communities have had to get creative to feed themselves and sustain their families. What better way than to feed the nation stuck behind barred doors?
It helps that our great love for delicious gastronomical delicacies has been fine tuned through the years and passed down many generations along with closely guarded family recipes — held secret or proudly shared.
wonder | wander | women have a few aunts who swear they will take our lolas best recipes to the grave. The rest of the clan on either side, maternal and paternal, have been carefully and deviously trying to pry them from their stiffening claws and dimming memories before all is lost.
These are desperate times after all.
In the meantime we support the brave and valiant endeavors of friends and families around the world who have taken to concocting home made happy meals to deliver safely to our homes.
Our bellies are calmed and full. Our hearts and souls are fed and nourished. Be well and stay safe.
