The central Philippines region has been slammed by the recent Typhoon Odette [Rai], making nine destructive landfalls in the country on December 16.
In Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte; Cagdianao, Dinagat Islands; Liloan and Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte; and Pres Carlos P. Garcia and Bien Unido in Bohol.
Multiple sources report that Typhoon Rai has caused extensive damage in passing the Philippines. The typhoon caused widespread disruptions in the Philippines from flooding, landslides, and strong winds. Overall, at least 146 people were killed.
Casualties and displacements have been caused by drowning, landslides, falling trees, and other storm-related disruptions.
At least 706,634 people across 2,209 Barangays have been affected by the typhoon, and at least 8,503 houses have been damaged or destroyed.
Odette continues to intensify as it moves away from the country on December 17 with maximum winds of 185 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 230 kph while moving westward. It was last spotted 180 kilometers northwest of Pag-asa Island in Kalayaan, Palawan.
