the colours of autumn

It’s been a wild and walk-filled autumn! This year wonder | wander | women have been exploring again — fully vaccinated, we’re happy to be safely outdoors (with masks and distancing)- to catch the changing leaves for fall.

Some of the most vivid scenes are spotted from our own back window. It’s an exaggeration via filter, but the red leaves of the overgrown hostel garden down the way do make a bright showing every year.

We like to track their progress. Here they are in early October, just starting to change:

Just a few weeks later, at their peak:

A week and a half ago and the leaves are starting to yellow and drop off.

As of yesterday, most of the bright red leaves are gone or faded to brown and orange.

The rest of London is bidding farewell to summer greens, too. The Tate Modern was surrounded by golden trees, making for a beautiful stroll by the river.

Every neighbourhood is decked out in autumn golds, with leaves carpeting the sidewalks.

As the daylight recedes, these bright colours reassure us that not every day will be grey.

Chestnut trees roll out the red carpet right up to my own doorstep, and on dry days I love to shuffle my feet through the rustling, crisp leaves.

The path to the holidays, it seems, is paved with gold. Enjoy it before winter arrives!
