Niagara Falls | summer fun
Water is definitely our element. wonder |wonder | women grew up on our little tropical island. Happy clams in our beautiful beaches, bountiful oceans, and warm seas.
In June we took a family vacation to Toronto, Canada where we had to visit the wonder that is Niagara Falls. This time last year Mahala and I were there to visit friends and family as well.
Niagara Falls. This name is Mohawk. It means, the neck — the term being first applied to the portage or neck of land, between lakes Erie and Ontario. Red Jacket pronounced the word Niagara to me, in the spring of 1820, as if written O-ne-au-ga-rah.~ Henry Schoolcraft
It took us an hour and forty five minutes to get from Toronto to Niagara Falls. Where we grabbed a quick lunch to fortify ourselves before heading down to the falls.
It was a good thing we did too as it was a blistering hot day and we had to struggle through hordes of tourists from Mainland China who barreled through crowds with no sense of personal space, boundaries or appropriateness.
Surprising enough — dealing adult to adult — but we felt the clear and present need to protect our young ones from this onslaught.
Unlike the past visits — this time we took the boat ride tour to the falls as well. The tour itself was only twenty minutes but lining up to get on and off the vessel and the cable car took more time.
Plus we went full-hog tourists and had our photos taken in front of a green screen where they added the falls to our background.
What a delight it was to get into the water. Close enough to observe the wildlife living in and around the river and falls. Have the falls wash over us in cooling sprays. Feel the full force of the thundering hydro power all around us.
Mother Nature in her full glory does put up an awe inspiring show. We had a blast!
